Female Speaker: When most people hear the term Poodle, they think of a high strung, high society type of dog. In reality however, the Poodle is one of the most popular house pet breeds in the world and they are famous for their companionable temperaments and extremely high intelligence.

A member of the AKC non-sporting group, Poodles are outgoing friendly dogs who love to run and romp. They are true family companions who can play hard with children all afternoon, then curl up in the living room for an evening of relaxation.

Poodles require daily exercise and mental stimulation to develop their famous even temperaments. Poodles come in three sizes; standard, miniature and toy. Standard Poodles stand 15 inches tall and weight between 45 and 70 pounds.

Miniature Poodles must be over ten inches, but under 15 inches tall. Miniatures typically weigh between 15 and 17 pounds. The toy Poodle must be 10 inches shorter and the weigh a mere six to nine pounds.

The distinctive curly dense coat of the Poodle comes in a rainbow of colors. Their coat does not shed but should be brushed on a daily basis to prevent mats, and Poodles require regular grooming.

A happy and energetic breed, Poodles are excellent matches for families of all types and their hypoallergenic coat makes them an excellent choice for children who have allergies.
