Social worker Judith W. Cousins discusses rules about drinking.

Host: Are there rules about drinking?

Judith W. Cousins: Yeah, there are rules about drinking, not so much in the sense of don t drink -- drink or don t drink or drink at 8 o clock or not at 8 o clock, but there are rules in the sense culture sets up rules, society sets up rules and family set up rules. Rules for example are, you drink in our society for instance, you drink only when you reach age 21. However, there are informal rules which state that, well if you are going out with your boys and you are 18 or 19 years old and you maybe drinking at a party. So, there are informal rules and more formal rules. There are rules about when to drink. For instance, drinking at a wedding is acceptable. Drinking at a wedding is expected for a lot of people. Drinking at 8 o clock in the morning isn t.

So, we know there are rules and family set up those rules and society sets up those rules and cultures sets up those rules.
