    Cheerleading Expert Ben Canty demonstrates basic preps and positions for cheerleading.

    Ben Canty: Hi guys! I am Ben Canty with All Star Legacy. Here with me is Lauren and we are showing you cheerleading jumps and techniques. We are going to start with our three basic preps today, the Power Approach, the All Star Approach and the High 'V' Approach.

    Before we get started with all of these different approaches, we are going to have to remember that in cheerleading, we only count to 8. So with every approach that we do today, we will have a 5-6-7-8-intro.

    We are going to start with the Power Approach. Here we go and 5-6-7-8 and on 1, we are going to hit our table-top motion. A table-top motion means squeeze your arms in nice and tight to your body. See how she is squeezing. Squeeze your fists, squeeze your elbows in, making sure that it doesn't move anywhere.

    On 2, we are going to shoot our arms out straight underneath our chin. Again, her arms are really tight right here. 3, she is going to swing down. On 4, she is going to hit a tight motion, doesn't move. 5, she is going to land, hand by her knees, bend your knees just slightly. On 6, we are going to hold and on 7, we are going to stand.

    Make sure that every time that you are not doing something with your arms, they are nice and tight by your body. That was the Power Approach. One more time and 5-6-7-8. Hit 1, out 2, swing 3, jump 4, land 5, hold 6, stand up tight on 7. The next approach that we will go over is the All Star Approach. Again, we have a 5-6-7-8. We are going to crossbar hands together on 1, shoot them up to the sky on 2, swing down on 3, hit our tight motion on 4, land on 5, hold 6 and stand on 7. That's the All Star Approach. One more time and 5-6-7-8. Clasp 1, up 2, swing 3, jump 4, land 5, hold 6, stand 7. That was the All Star Approach. Our last approach that we are going to learn today is the High 'V' approach. Here we go, 5-6-7-8, high 'V' on 1, good. We call it a High 'V' because it looks like a V. Her arms are nice and tight, her fists are squeezing and she is pushing her shoulders down into her body.

    The last thing that you want to do is squeeze your shoulders up, so that it looks like you don't have a neck. On 2, you want to bring your arms right underneath your chin. On 3, you are going to swing down. On 4, hit a nice tight motion. On 5, we land, hold 6 and on 7, we stand nice and tight. Here we go and 5-6-7-8. High 'V' 1, hit 2, swing down on 3, motion on 4, land 5, hold 6 and stand on 7. Those were our three basic approaches to our jumps, the Power Approach, the All Star Approach and the High 'V' Approach. Next, we are going to learn our beginner jumps.
