Galen Bontrager: Hello! I am Galen Bontrager, owner and operator of Galen Bontrager Farm near Wellman, Iowa and we are doing this video on how to build a chicken-coop. We are on the step now where we cover this entire pen; we will wrap it with chicken wire and the metal frame and get it fully enclosed here. For this step we have a two foot wide chicken wire, this is cut into 20 foot length and I don't bother wrapping around the back because there will be metal cover over that. Staple gun and three eight inch sized staples is what we use for this particular project and I will fasten it up here at the base and the outsides, staple on the bottom, fasten that all the way around to the back side. We are not stapling, our chicken wire is on it, it's assembled. Now we are ready for the metal pieces. I will go ahead and put the back one on first; this piece is four foot wide same at width as our pen and I use this three quarter inch screw again with quarter inch driver and I fasten that on; six screws is sufficient then we put that all together with those screws.
Now we come around to the front side and fit in our metal piece here, six screws again. This piece is particularly cut at 46 inches about the same as our length we measured at the top for that two by four and same on the back side where we do another length of 46 inches and we fasten that with six screws and that's our metal cover. There's different sizes, different offerings of metal that you can use; a 29 gauge steel, this is a corrugated tin here. So just whatever you have in your home improvement store will be sufficient and this concludes our step with putting the covering on the pen and we will move on to the next step of putting the front cover, assembling that frame.
