Allison Howard: Hi! I am Allison with the Cat Fanciers Associations. Most animals lover agree there is nothing cuter than cuddly, furry, playful kitten. They make great pets, but it's important to remember that kitten needs special care to ensure that they grow into healthy well mannered adult cats.

If you a considering adopting a kitten know that ideally kitten should stay with their mothers until there are completely weaned and have their shots. A weaned kitten no longer relies on milk provided by their mother.

Kittens are usually fully weaned at 6 to 8 weeks old. During these early stages the kitten also learns from mother what types of rough play are appropriate. When it's time to bring your kitten home remember that each kitten should be viewed as a distinct and separate individual with there our special needs. Keeping the kitten isolated upon arrival away from other pets in a quiet room for a few days helps the kitten gain confidence in their new surroundings. Reserve some one-on-one play time with your new kitten, so you can both bound encourage interaction and monitor behavior.

Kittens love to play, but do not encourage bad behaviors such as rough play or biting. This behavior won't be so cute when you kitten grows up. Gently tap them on the nose and say no, to correct behavior. It is important not to show impatience or irritation at this stage. Gentle but firm communication is usually all that is needed to put your kitten on the right track.

Bad habits grow with repetition and are easily forgotten when replaced with positive behaviors using interactive toys. Proper socialization and exposure to different situations will help your kitten grow into a confident adult cat.

Remember that kittens are still learning what is save and acceptable. Keep an eye on them so they don't get into situations where they can harm themselves. Soon your kitten will learn that expending and high spirits is behavior use when playing with other cats not there owners.

A kitten can be a precious addition to any family or home and with these steps your pet will grow into a model cat and a loved family member.
