Snowshoe expert Adam Chase demonstrates the basics of how to snowshoe.

Adam Chase: Hi! I am Adam Chase and I am here in beautiful snowy Boulder, Colorado. And I am here to talk about snowshoeing one-o-one. My background in snowshoeing is about 15 years. I am Captain of Team Atlas and have raced competitively including four different national championships. And I would like to make it easy for you to become a snowshoer. If you can walk, you can snowshoe. So, today I am going to talk about proper equipment to use. Everything from your snowshoes to using gaiters, wearing the proper pants and layering. Then I am also going to talk about backcountry safety basics. I will make sure that you are safe out there. What to carry as far as nutrition and hydration and then I am also going to talk about some techniques. How to go uphill? How to go down hill safely and then how to reverse from hills? Because snowshoeing is a cold weather activity, backcountry safety is really crucial. So knowing your limitations is the first start. When it is really cold, you have got to dress appropriately and make sure that you stay hydrated which actually is somewhat tricky when it is cold. So, lets get started.
