Handy man Joe Wise demonstrates how to test and see if your new disposer works.

Joe Wise: Hi, I am Joe Wise, owner of Built Wise Construction in Orlando, Florida. Today we are going over how to install a garbage disposer. We are about done with this, so we have got all of the waste products, all of the waste pipes replaced and put in, now we are going to test and see if there are any things leaking. We are just going to turn on the water here and let it drain. I always find that sometimes it is helpful to just put the strainer in here, collect a little water first and then let the water rush out all at one time. That will help us see if it is going to leak. So we will let that collect a little water, pull it and then we will look underneath and see if it is leaking. I don't see any leaks. Put it over on the garbage disposal side, feel the pipe that are up underneath the water connections. We feel no leaks, that's a good sign. We have already turned the breaker box on, so now we are going to just flip the switch on the garbage disposer and see if it works. Now that's what a new garbage disposer is supposed to sound like. We will check it again while it is running there. Make sure it is not leaking anywhere, not breaking any water out, I don't see any leaks, hands are dry. Turn the garbage disposer off, turn the water off, close her up and we are done. Hopefully, we have showed you how to do this properly. It is something that will give you a lot of help in the future. Until nest time, we will see you. 1
