Seamstress Beth Bates demonstrates how to thread a sewing machine.

Beth Bates: Hi, I am Beth Bates with sewteacher.com. Today, we are learning how to work your sewing machine. In this clip, we will be talking about how to thread your sewing machine. I am going to turn the machine like this that you can see, you place your spool of thread here on this stick. The thread needs to unwind from the front, not the back like this, at the front. Put it through this first hook, turn it again, you are going to come down through here. This machine actually has an arrow showing you. You turn this so that it comes up, you can see it and even though this seems sort of like a random obstacle course, this is all very important for the timing, bring it back down through.

There is another little hook here on the side and then you are going to actually thread the needle. Grab the tail, pull it out. Okay, now, from the previous clip, we have already wound our bobbin, hold on to this, turn your handle manually till it catches the bobbin. So you should have two threads coming out like this and we pull it to the side. Put your sewing machine back together and you are ready to start sewing.
