Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Dr. Ann Kellams gives tips for coping with postpartum depression and getting help.

Host: If I have been diagnosed with post partum depression what are some things I should bear in mind?

Dr. Ann Kellams: Probably, the most important thing is that if there are thoughts of suicide or of harming yourself or the baby in any way, those are major red flags and you just need to get on the phone with your doctor, a crisis hotline, the emergency room, your support people, so those are probably the most severe cases. Otherwise, though, I think if you really are not able in those days when you are affected by this condition to care for yourself or the baby then we need to get you some help.
