Fuel economy expert David Rizzo discusses if it okay to pump gas when the storage tanks are being filled

Host: Is it okay to pump gas when the storage tanks are being filled? David Rizzo: I wouldn't and here is why because when those tanks are being filled by the gasoline trucks, they are creating lot of sludge and dirt that's on the bottom on those tanks. Those tanks are empty in the first place otherwise the truck wouldn't be there. So, when they are dumping in tons and tons of gasoline and thousands of gallons it stirring up all the sludge in the bottom of the tanks. If you are filling up at the same time, that sludge is going to end up in your tank. So, no I wouldn't. I would go to another gas station. I wouldn't necessarily come back on a different day and make a long trip because then you are wasting a little gas, but if you see the truck in the lot, move on to another gas station.
