Bartender and Mixologist Christopher Kelley demonstrates how to make a Taj Mojito.

Hi, I am Chris Kelly with Mie N Yu restaurant in Georgetown in Washington D.

    C. Today, I am showing you how to make modern mixed drinks. Our next drink, we call the Taj Mojito, but it is basically a twist on the classic Mojito. We are going to be using half of a lime, cut into wedges, four pieces of fresh mint, to that we are going to add about a half an ounce of simple syrup. You can use granulated sugar too, but I find that the simple syrup blends into the drink much better. To make simple syrup, stir equal parts of sugar in water on the stovetop until it gets to a syrupy consistency. Once you have the lime, mint in simple syrup in your shaker without ice, mind you, go ahead and muddle that up very well. Get that nice fresh lime juice or add a healthy amount of ice and for our Mojito, we are using a mango flavored rum from Cruzan, it's from St. Croix. We put ours in a pretty large glass, so we are doing a healthy pour of rum here probably about two and half, three ounces. So, this is a double Mojito for most folks. You want to take that up real well and instead of straining out the liquid from the ice, we are going to keep the ice in the shaker to get it right into the drink and to that we are going to add club soda for a little fizz and a splash of sprite for just a little bit more sweetness. So there you have, the Taj Mojito. I am glad you joined us on this tour through modern mixed drinks. Come and see me anytime in Georgetown at Mie N Yu restaurant.
