Hi. Im Suzy Willemssen. I coach the Blue Jays Gold which is an 18 and under Golds ASA fastpitch team. I'm also the head coach at Chantilly High School and a professional hitting instructor and it's my pleasure to offer you some tips, insights regarding some basic fastpitch softball skills. In particular, we will be reviewing throwing, fielding ground balls, bunting, hitting, pitching and just kind of touch upon how important the mental aspect is of the game and it's my sincere honor and pleasure to have a two of the areas premium softball players, helping me demonstrate some of the skills, Chrissy (ph) who will be attending Broward College, in Florida and Erin (ph) who will be attending Notre Dame. So, lets get going.
As with any sport particularly be a baseball and softball that we are talking today safety is first. So, if you are doing any type of hitting, we have got to make sure you have that helmet on, and preferably with a mask that's the rules for today. You need to have a helmet with the face mask. When you are throwing, make sure you are warmed up. Again, we will talk a little bit about injury prevention when we talk about our throwing skills, and by all means, whoever you are throwing the ball to theyd better be looking at you. I don't know how many times I have seen people throwing the ball around and they throw it to a person and their heads turned away. So, make sure you are warmed up, make sure the person you are playing catch with is watching you and if you are in the batter's box, make sure you have got that helmet on and preferable with the face mask.
