Marylou Teitz: Hi, I am Marylou Teitz with the DC chapter of Lamaze International. Today I am going to show you how to diaper your baby. You will need a few basic supplies to get started. First you will need a fresh diaper either a disposable or a cloth diaper with a reusable wrap. Disposables are sized according to your baby's weight and you should anticipate having about 100 to get you through your first week with your baby. You will need a fresh towel or a changing pad to lay your baby on during the diaper change.

You will also need some baby wipes or some cotton balls and water or a soapy wash cloth to clean your baby's bottom and finally you will need some diaper rash ointment in case your baby develops a rash. For safety sake, always use the restraining straps when your baby is on the changing table because even young babies can move unexpectedly. In other locations always keep one hand on your baby s body while you are changing the baby.

Now before we get started let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a Lamaze certified childbirth educator with over 25 years experience teaching prenatal classes for the Washington DC chapter of Lamaze International where I have also served as President for the past ten years. I am proud to say that our classes have been voted best childbirth classes in the Washington Metro Area by the readers of a local family magazine. During the summer months, I operate the baby bed and breakfast at Bethany Beach, Delaware where I offer a private Lamaze childbirth class instruction, couples with a mini beach retreat.
