Hi, I am Vince Clingenpeel President and Principle Inspector at Clingenpeel Properties. Today, we are talking about how to winterize your home. Today, we are going to show you how to prepare your home for an extended absence or put your house to sleep. We are going to talk about the exterior, the security, we are going in the bathroom, the kitchen, the heating and certainly, the water systems. You are not going to need too many tools to do this. You certainly need some antifreeze, a few simple hand tools; it is very easy to do. As for as safety goes, there are a few precautions you need to take care of. The antifreeze that you are going to handle must be held carefully. Read the label, follow the directions. When we are doing the chimney and the roof and the gutters, be sure to exercise caution. If you are nervous about it, if you are uncomfortable about it, hire somebody. There are people that do that for a living.

Before we begin, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have been in the building business since I was a teenager and my father dragged me out of bed and made me work on his brick crew. I have been a brick layer, a carpenter, a remodeling contractor and now a home inspector and home owner consultant. Even if you do not have a vacation home, hopefully you will find a few tips in this video that will help you in your own home ownership. Now let s get started with the exterior.
