Krista Heubusch: Hi, I am Krista with Skater's Quest and I am here to teach you the basics of inline skating. Donald will be demonstrating the Backward Swizzle. Very important when you are learning how to skate backward especially for the first time that you are at a nice flat surface, it's in a controlled environment with no obstacles. You should first pick a shoulder that you like to look over. This way you are looking in the direction of your travel. So Donald is going to rotate his head over his right shoulder. This way he is always watching where he is going.

The first stance is you are going to start in the inverted V stance or an A stance. You are then going to apply pressure to your inside edges to roll into the A-Frame stance. Then you are going to pull those feet close together to roll into a parallel stance. Now to stop yourself make sure you do a nice wide swizzle as your last swizzle, slowing down your speed by applying pressure to those inside edges and bringing your heels together into the V stance.

That is the Backward Swizzle. We hope that you enjoy inline skating and we encourage you to take a lesson with a certified instructor so you can master the basics safely and have a great time.
