C. and today, I am showing you how to decorate your Easter Eggs. Now this is the final clip in this series and it's basically just to give you an overview of how to preserve any eggs that you are not going to eat, which you've previously blown out and is decorated and now you just want to keep for years and years to come with no damage.
So, you have basically two options when it comes to sealing your eggs. You can either use a paint-on medium or you can use a spray medium. We've gone over using decoupage mediums in the previous video clips and those give a nice, brushed-on feel in either gloss or matt finish. Basically, that protects it from any of the paper rubbing off or any of the paint chipping. But then if you want to use a special spray, possibly a UV resistant spray so that way your eggs don't fade over the years, we'll show you how to do that.
So this is a blown out Easter egg which I have dyed and it's all ready to be preserved and set out for now and then put away for years to come and basically, you're just going to take your spray-on finish, shake it up really well and just give it a little test on the paper or on newsprint just to make sure that it's spraying clear and that it's all mixed well together and then you are just going to go and try not to get too much on your hands because it is a pretty sticky stuff, but if it does, it just washes off with regular soap and water. You are just going to spray in nice, short, even coats all around.
You probably want to let it dry and then do another coat and also to get to all the parts where you're holding it, which haven't been sprayed yet. That's basically it. Since these are blown out eggs, they are preservable for years to come. I know in the past my family has always taken a hard boiled egg and kept it for years. That's not the best idea because the eggs will eventually, after they sit out for while, they start to rot, and the eggshell is perfectly fine, but if that egg gets ever cracked, it would be a horrendous mess as well as the smelliest thing you had ever wanted. Oh! I can't even imagine.
So, you just want to - always, if you have a special egg that you want to preserve, make sure that you blow out the yolk, blow out the white, clean it very well and then decorate as you want and then use a protectant just to make sure they look just as nice today as it will in 20 years.
