Voice Instructor Jennifer Rutherford explains that taking water to an audition is a good idea, but more importantly, you should keep hydrated for the days leading up to the audition.

Host: Should I take water with me to an audition?

Jennifer Rutherford: Sure, take water with you to the audition. But it is really a good idea to drink it a few days ahead of time, make sure you are well hydrated that is, if you are drinking water all the time. It is good for your skin anyway. So you should be drinking eight to ten glasses of water a day on a regular basis. If you drink water at the last minute it actually might make you even fell thirstier than because if your body is not used to it, it just stores it away and then it wants more. So it is a good idea to keep hydrated on a regular basis. The vocal chords, the vocal folds really have no other source of lubrication other than water. So it is really important to keep them hydrated in order for them to be healthy.
