Dr. Tina Alster with the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery explains how to care for sensitive skin and prevent irritation.

Dr. Tina Alster: Hi, I am Dr. Tina Alster with the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery. Today I am going to talk to your about sensitive skin. Inflammatory skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and rosacea need to have products applied that will not further irritate the skin. So it is important to stay away from chemicals, dyes and fragrances. I tell my patients to use very calming and soothing creams as well as sunscreens that are non chemical. What I mean by that is using sunscreens that have a physical block, such as zinc oxide and Titanium dioxide. Use a basic skin care routine which is comprised off a cream cleanser which is non-irritating but also doesn't over dry the skin. A day time sunscreen that also provides a light amount of moisture, remember the sunscreen should be non-chemical and an evening cream to sooth the skin. With a little TLC and the right routine, you can restore your sensitive skin to display a healthy glow.
