Bridget Speiser of the Washington Humane Society discusses the criteria you should use when choosing a cat.

What criteria should I use when choosing a cat?

Bridget Speiser: Personal visual preferences are certainly very strong and you may be drawn to a particular look of a cat whether it's his sturdy build or his actual markings whether you wanted a striped cat versus a solid colored cat. But, I would ask that you begin to rise above those personal preferences and really start to look to the character traits underneath that may best match your lifestyle. We do have cats that are quieter and more reserved which may suit someone who is may be not looking for an actual kind of on your lap cat all the time. We also have cats that are very gregarious and very outgoing that will be kind of on you or following you around like your little buddy, and that may be something that suits you better. So you may not look outwardly like what you thought he or she would like, but start to look underneath and see if that matches the match that's better for you.
