Animal welfare expert Lesa Miller discusses the importance of finding a good place for your pet to stay while you are away.

Host: What should I do with my pets if there are no co-shelters in my area?

Lesa Miller: If there are no co-shelters in your area and you know this to be true and you have made no previous arrangements to shelter your pet anywhere else like a pet friendly hotel or friends or relatives that are nearby or even further away if you can drive away. If there is no way for you to get your pet anywhere else you may have no choice, but to leave the pet in the home. We urge people not to stay with their animals as this maybe certainly a life risk to them. But if they choose to do so we can't -- we can only advice people what to do. This is why it is so important to plan ahead and have a plan so that you are not forced to make a really tough choice like that.
