College counselor Jerome A. Cole, MA discusses where a typical college interview will take place.

Speaker: Where do college interviews take place?

Jerome Cole: Well, I would say for the most part, they take place on college campuses and normally that it is in the office of college and office of undergraduate admissions. There are some schools they do what they call a alumni interviews and those normally take place in your local area. So, for example we live in Washington, DC; we happen to know that there are large numbers of college educated people here in DC.

So if you are applying to a particular university, they have a alumni here in the Washington, DC area, you could very well end up doing an alumni interview here in Washington. Those normally take place in someone's workplace or at a public setting, a coffee shop or restaurant or whatever; they normally about 30 to 45 minutes in length and pretty informal. Basically, they are just trying to get to know who you are as a person. So, I would say, primarily two locations, the college campus itself and then for some situations they will actually take place in your local area and probably be an alumni who does that.
