Amanda Lukoff: The cold temperatures of winter are the perfect excuse to visit a cozy destination. At away.
com, we have suggestions for three great winter getaways.
Bar Harbor, Maine is a classic coastal New England town. Book a room at a local Bed and Breakfast and explore all that the area has to offer. Go cross-country skiing through the 41 miles of trails in Acadia National Park. Try ice fishing or take a hike and check out the rugged coastline and lighthouses.
In the winter time, Park City, Utah is more of a place to play than relax. The area has plenty of condos, ski resorts, and great little B & Bs for your choosing. Walk along Historic Main Street and you will find plenty of art galleries, shops, and restaurants. It's said that Park City has more chefs per capita than Paris, France. So, be sure to take advantage of the food selections.
Lake Placid in New York's Adirondack Mountains, has been a two-time host of the Winter Olympics. And just five hours from New York City and Boston, it is the perfect winter escape. Many of the Olympic venues such as the bobsled track, the ski jump and the figure skating rink are still in use. If you want to explore the mountains, you will find great trails for hiking, skiing or snowshoeing. So enjoy a winter weekend getaway, but don't forget the blanket and S'Mores for evenings by the fire.
