Learn about the history of pierogies and the traditional preparation with butter and onions.

Male Speaker: You may not know it, but a delicious holiday is coming up soon. October 8th is National Pierogi Day, what better way to celebrate them by fixing up a batch of delicious pierogies. Pierogies first arrived in the United States at the beginning of the 20th Century from Eastern Europe and continued to gain popularity in the following years. Today Pierogies are enjoyed across the nation, especially in North Eastern cities and parts of the Midwest, that's why some call this region the Pierogi Pocket.

There are many different ways to serve pierogies, but one of the traditional ways to prepare pierogies is to saut them in butter and onions and serve with a dollop of sour cream. So on October 8th, cook up some pierogies and help celebrate National Pierogi Day in the Pierogi's place, in American Culinary History.
