Arthur Jackson: Hi, I am Arthur Jackson from One On One Basketball. Today we are talking about basic dribbling for basketball and right now, we are going to talk a little bit about hand placement and ball placement. The key when you are dribbling the basketball is making sure your hand is loose on top of the ball, you want to feel comfortable and relaxed, when you drop your hand on the ball, there should be a little bit of space, but we do not want your hands tight, drop it, it drops right on top of the ball, it s nice and comfortable and there is little bit space with our palm, we do not want our palm on the basket ball. We are using our finger tips for control.
So, we want to keep in on top and make sure that our there our fingers are pointing forward, we want to turn off to the side and turn our wrists, we want to keep it forward, keeping our hand on top. When we are dribbling the basketball, it is very important that if I stand on a line and I am dribbling, I do not want to dribble too far in front of me with the ball, because when I do that. I expose it to the defense. So, what we want to do is when we have our hand on top, just keep the ball just right by our side and almost on that line just a little bit in front, I am keeping the ball nice and low, bouncing it just in front of my feet but almost on the line, so it is equidistant, so that we are not exposing it to the defense.
So, now I am going to bring in my demonstrator Lincoln, he is going to show you hand position and ball position as he starts to dribble. Go ahead, notice his hands loosed on the ball, he has got his fingertips pointing forward. He s not letting his palm touch the ball and he is keeping the ball nice and low to keep it under control and stay in right on the line and just a little bit in front, excellent job. So, now we are going to talk about correct stance and the fundamentals when dribbling the basketball.
