Hello. My name is Slavica Ilic. I have been playing the violin for the 30 years. I have been teaching the violin for 17 years. Last three years, I have been in the faculty for an International School of Music where we provide a private violin instruction.
Today, I will be talking about some basic tips for the violin beginners. Right now, I will give you a very short introduction about some violin parts. We will start with the top of the violin. This part right here, we call the scroll. This is the pegbox that holds the four pegs and of course we use the pegs for the tuning of the strings. The pegs are located in the pegbox and each one is for a different string. Violin has four strings and its tuned in fifths. This right here, this part right here we call the neck. The long black part transholds up till here we call it a fingerboard. It is made of the ebony and the reason for that because the ebony has a very superior resistance to air.
The top of the violin is made of the spruce. The bottom and the side ribs are made of the maple tree. This part right here we call the bridge. This is the tailpiece, chinrest, and right here we have the end button. Inside the violin, under the bridge, basically, its placed most under the highest string of the violin, which is E string. We have a sound post that is placed in between top and the bottom part of the violin and it helps this to transmit the sound between the top and the bottom part of the violin.
In my next clip, I will be talking about the violin bow.
