Boating Safety – Hypothermia

    The U.S. Coast Guard demonstrates how to operate a boat safely, including the risk of hypothermia.

    Eric Judor: Hello, my name is Eric Judor with the United States Coast Guard. Today we will be discussing boating safety in this lesson is about hypothermia. Hypothermia occurs when your core body temperature lowers. Hypothermia is one of the leading causes of death for shipwreck cruise is another disasters at sea. Symptoms of hypothermia include shivering, a weak pulse, a low body temperature and a pale face. Also, if we see someone that may show signs of hypothermia, it is important to take them out of the elements and if they are wet you should remove their clothing, give them new clothing and if possible wrap them in blankets. It is also important to not give them food and especially do not give them alcohol.

    Those were the signs and symptoms of hypothermia.
