Host: Can I legally stop inquiries into my credit score?
Markita Aldridge-Woods: Yes you can, and the reason being 10% of your credit score is actually based on a number of inquiries. There are two types of inquiries; there is a hard inquiry which is basically someone soliciting credit that is not approved by you, giving you pre-approved offers in checking your credit. Every time that happens that actually hurts your credit score in the long run and then you have what s called a soft inquiry. A soft inquiry would be an inquiry that was initiated by you. You did your own credit report; that doesn t hurt you at all. So, you can opt out of the pre-approved offers that you receive and we do recommend that if you are really trying to build your credit score, worried about it increasing, you want to have is the least amount of inquiries as possible.
