Amy DePaoli: Hi! I am Amy DePaoli with Pet Valu. Today, I am going to give you a few tips on how to care for your pet's dental health. Dental health problems are the leading cause of health issues for dogs and cats. Over 80% of dogs over the age of 3 have dental health issues later in life.

Dental health causes more then just problems with breathing. The toxins, that build up on the teeth, cause heart and liver damage. Brushing is the most effective way to keep your pet's teeth clean. It's recommended that you do this daily. If that becomes a problem, there are some alternatives.

These products include chew toys, chew sticks, dental foam, water additives and food supplements. These products are available at most pet stores. It's important to start looking after your pet's dental heath early in life, while you may not see signs of bleeding gums or difficulty chewing until later, dental problem start years before.

Those are just a few ways of how you can care for you pet's teeth.
