Dr. Nina Solenski: There is one important difference in that the Hemorrhagic strokes can present with a severe, very, very severe abrupt headache and in that case that patient maybe experiencing a Hemorrhagic stroke, a special one that we call Subarachnoid Hemorrhage. It not just tells us where it is in the space in the brain, that is a life threatening stroke and that needs to be addressed again immediately. So not every headache, severe headache represents a Hemorrhagic stroke. Many people have migraines and they certainly are severe, but this is a type of headache that you cannot deal with. On a scale of one to ten, it's a ten, it will absolutely grab your attention and those kind of headaches have to be taken seriously and in those cases the loved one or whoever has that should be taken to the emergency room.
