Registered Dietitian Roxanne Moore of Sodexo explains the basics of a nutrition checkup and how to know if you need one.

Roxanne E Moore: Hi! I am Roxanne Moore, Registered Dietician and Director of Wellness for Sodexo Schools. If you feel tired or having problems with your gut or trying to manage your way, you may need a nutrition checkup.

A nutrition checkup is a one-on-one meeting with a registered dietitian. The dietitian will ask a series of questions including medically related and lifestyle questions and then complete a thorough assessment of your goals and nutrition needs.

Many athletes who want to go, struggle with good nutrition and typically when they are feeling poorly, they overlook their diet as the potential culprit. For example, when you're tired, you may reach for more caffeine; when you're trying to lose weight, you may skip meals; when you're trying to perform better in your sport, you may reach for whatever gimmick has promised to boost your energy and speed.

The truth is that you may be overlooking something that's easy and inexpensive to fix, your diet. If you feel like you're lacking energy, feeling overwhelmed because you don't know what to eat, you are struggling with your weight or trying to gain muscle or maybe even suffering with stomach problems then, you should consider a nutrition checkup.

A registered dietitian will help you have a better understanding of what you need to do to meet your performance goals. If you feel you need a checkup, you can locate a dietitian by going to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics website at eatright.
