Mark Phillips, family camping expert with L.L.Bean shows you how to have fun around the campsite.

Mark: Hello, my name is Mark. I am a camping expert at L.

Bean in Freeport, Maine. Today, I am going to talk to you about some of the activities you can do while you are at the campsite with your family.

Family camping is a great opportunity to share fun times together and there are so many different things you can do, everything from playing cards together after dinner, to going on nature walks. You can explore, you can also have good time doing a new activity called Geo-caching with a GPS and looking for treasure.

If there is a campground recreation area near you, you can actually take your ball out and play soccer or football, whatever. In the evenings after the meal too, you might enjoy time around the campfire telling stories, singing songs or roasting marshmallows to make s'mores.

There are so many campgrounds around the country, but you can choose a campground that is nearby an activity that you would like to do. Campground like this would allow you to go biking, kayaking and even hiking trails nearby.

At night your older children might enjoy night hiking using their night vision instead of flashlights. In my family star gazing and looking for satellites is a favorite activity after dark.

The kinds of activities you choose to bring with you will obviously depend on the ages and interests of your own children, but infants, one through teenagers can have a great time while camping. So keep these activities in mind when you plan for your first camping trip.
