Moises Linares with the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation explains the necessary steps in order to get a fishing license.

Moises Linares: Hi! This is Moises Linares with Take Me Fishing. One of the most important items any angler needs before they go fishing is a fishing license. Well, dont worry, the process can be easy and affordable.

Fishing license rules and regulations vary by State. So its important to check with your state fish and wildlife agency or department of natural resources before you hit the water.

One common misconception is that you all need to take a test to get your fishing license and that is not so. In most states you are required to have a fishing license to fish in public reservoirs, lakes, rivers and streams.

The average customer license costs about $25, and most states dont require a license for those under the age of 16. Licenses can be typically be obtained on a daily, short-term, annual or sometimes even lifetime basis; and in most cases they can be purchased online.

And by purchasing your license you are helping to conserve your state aquatic natural resources today and for generations to come.
