John Basedow: Everyone can look good in a bathing suit, even if we are not in a perfect shape. Here are my top five tips for faking a beach body.
Number one is do morning cardio, particularly the week before you hit the beach. You burn more fat on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, because your blood sugar and your insulin levels are low and stable.
Number two, think nibble and sip, don't gorge and gulp. Large meals cause water accumulation and they also cause bloating. You want to have four to six small balanced meals a day to keep your waistline trim.
Number three, follow what I call the reverse meal pyramid. You want to have breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. You have the heavy calorie meals earlier in the day, when they are going to be used for energy and the lighter meals later in the day, so there is less of a chance for overnight fat storage.
Number four, stick with natural choices. Buy foods that are not in a box, bag or wrapper. Those foods are more likely to bloat you and have excess fat and excess sugar. Natural choices like fruits and vegetables are high in water content and at healthy nutrients that can even help wash your system of excess garbage.
And finally number five, get a tan. Stick with some of the sunless tanner because nobody ever got skin cancer from using a tube. A swimsuit ready physique is possible with the right exercise and nutrition program. If you are still on your way, follow my simple tips to get that beach body, quicker than nature-intended.
