Dr. Tina Alster with the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery lists options for hair restoration procedures.

Dr. Tina Alster: Hi, I'm Dr. Tina Alster with the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery. Today I'd like to talk to you about a variety of hair restoration procedures.

One of the ways to restore hair is through hair transplantation, which has been performed over many, many years. Over the last several years however, there is a new device that makes hair restoration with hair transplant that much easier. It is called NeoGraft.

The NeoGraft procedure actually reduces the risk or complications because the time for treatment is far reduced. Instead of removing large areas of hair bearing skin to transplant to another bald area, individual grafts are removed so that there's less bleeding and complications and the improvement seen clinically is far enhanced.

If the idea of hair transplantation seems too daunting or involved for you there're non-invasive ways to enhance new hair growth. One of these is called Illuma Wave. The Illuma Wave treatment involves a series of sessions where a red diode light is applied to the scalp's surface.

What this does is it improves the vascularity of blood flow to the scalp, which enhances the delivery of nutrients to the hair follicle and makes hair grow thicker, faster and more plentiful.

What I like about this particular procedure is that it is perfectly harmless. Most people within a month of regular treatments will improve their hair growth and stop losing hair at the rate at which they originally did.

If your hair is thinning, you have many treatment options available to you now. The NeoGraft system has made hair transplantation that much easier and the Illuma Wave is a nice way to not only reduce hair loss but improve its luster and growth.
