Christine: Hi! My name is Christine with Merry Maids and today I'll be teaching you how to clean your home. In this segment, I'll be demonstrating how to use some very common household products to make some green cleaning solutions.

By using many different common household products, we are able to make some very effective green cleaning solutions. By adding baking soda and some water, you can make an abrasive cleaner, that's great to use on stovetops, bathtubs, and sinks. After mixing, you will want the product to have the consistency of paste. You can also sprinkle little baking soda and add a little bit of water directly onto the surface and then scrub with a cloth or nylon scrub brush.

Now I will be making glass cleaner. Take two cups of warm water. Add it to a bottle. Then you want to add a little mild dish soap; ivory works great, and last, you want to add three tablespoons of vinegar. There you are. You have great glass cleaner. Now I will be demonstrating how to make a multipurpose cleaner. We'll again need about two cups of water. Pour that into our bottle. We'll need about a tablespoon-and-a-half of vinegar, and we'll need a little less than tablespoon of baking soda. As a tip, make sure you dry out your funnel. Now, you want to make sure to just mix the product together. Now you have a great multipurpose product that you can spray on glass countertops, glass tabletops, furniture, and so forth.

Let's make a product that we can use on varnish wood around the house. Begin with about a half a cup of water. Add it to your bottle. And you want to add just a few drops of lemon oil. Mix the product together. Take a dry cloth and just spray. Now, if you wanted to make more wood cleaner, for every half cup of water, you would be adding a few drops of lemon oil.

Now I will make a product that we can use inside the toilet bowl. I am going to start by adding about a quarter cup of baking soda. Into the baking soda, I am going to add about a cup of vinegar. Now, notice I used a large container, because when the vinegar reacts with the baking soda, it bubbles. You want to stir together baking soda and vinegar, and now you have a great product to use inside your toilet bowl, to clean with a scrubber brush. Next, I will demonstrate how to make a product used to clean tile, laminate, vinyl, or even wood floors, if they have a surface finish. I am going to begin with a gallon of warm water. I am going to add to that a quarter cup of liquid dish soap. I am going to mix the two together before I begin. If I needed, a little extra shine for perhaps a linoleum floor, I would add a quarter cup of vinegar. Again, I just want to make sure I have mixed all of these products together before beginning my project.

I hope you were able to use some of these green solutions when cleaning your house. Next, I will discuss a few other household items you would be surprised to know you could use during your cleaning tasks.
