Host: How do I choose foods with benefits?
Sarah Alligood: You can get information about what is in a food by flipping over a food packet and checking out the Nutrition Facts panel. It would tell you about some key nutrients like calcium, protein, dietary fat, certain vitamins and this will give you some information about the benefits your food can give you. Sometimes there is also information on the front of the package which can serve as a cue to let you know what is in that food or what that food can do for you. For more information, you can visit our website, ific.
org we have a great list of different components that you can find and what foods you can find them in and the benefits that they can have on your health. When you visit our website, you will find this publication under the Functional Food section. It is called Functional Food Backgrounder. We define functional foods as foods that have added benefits.
