Rev. Bill Cochran of Say “I Do” Your Way lists resources for finding a wedding officiant for a couple without religious affiliation.

Host: How do we find someone to officiate our wedding if we are not affiliated with a religious organization?

Bill Cochran: I would start with friends, that is friends who have been married, who had to hire an officiant themselves, find out how they liked working with the officiant, what they would recommend. A lot of brides nowadays are going to message boards online and finding out what others are saying or I have even seen them post questions, 'I am getting married in this place, does anybody know a wedding officiant?

' It is amazing to watch the message board light up as different people weigh in on their opinions of the different officiants that are available. I have talked to a number of brides recently that said, We dont look much at advertisement. We are more interested in what other people are saying on those message boards or from friends or whatever. Another good resource though is to go to a bridal show, you will find a lot of things you need for your wedding there and probably a lot of things you dont need, but it is fun and interesting anyway and hopefully, you could find a wedding officiant through that source as well. You can try the Yellow Pages, you could go online, type in officiant for your place and hopefully you will be able to find some -- in fact, you will be able to find some and then it is just a matter of sitting down with them and sorting out who you want to work with.
