Education expert Lee Dorman describes the typical parent-teacher conference, including how long they normally last.

Host: How long should a parent-teacher conference last?

Lee Dorman: The length of a parent conference depends upon the subject. Often times it is scheduled like in two days, the elementary schools have like two days of parent conferences and usually that's about 20 minutes per conference.

If you are coming to talk to a teacher after school, you can expect the conference to last anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes, although sometimes, you may have a conference that goes longer than that, because it's not only you and the teacher but it maybe a guidance counselor; it might even be you and several other teachers that the child has as well as the guidance counselor. So it really depends on how many people are there and what the problem or what the issue is that you are trying to solve.
