Laura Rheinauer, Associate Director of Educational Connections, discusses the fees associated with taking the SAT and how some are eligible to get them waived.

Host: How much does the SAT cost and what is a fee waiver?

Laura Rheinauer: The SAT costs $43 here in the United States. There are different fees internationally. A fee waiver was established by the Educational Testing Service as a means to help students for whom payment of this registration fee would be of financial hardship and thus, wouldn't take the test and thus wouldn't even be applying to colleges. These fee waivers are available in your High School Counseling office. It can be filled out very easily, just a few questions, have the Counselor sign off on it and then you can get a fee waiver. For most students though, the $43 fee is an okay fee. I know it sounds like a lot, but unless it's a real financial hardship, that's when you are going to ask for that fee waiver.
