Travis Ortmayer: Preparation, how to get started in Olympic Weightlifting? Now the first thing we can talk about is age. You are never too old to start on Olympic Weightlifting Program. You want to make sure that your joints and your system is healthy enough to take the abuse of any weightlifting program. So, get yourself checked out if you think it's necessary. As far as how young to begin, I just say with proper guidance you can start lifting at any age. Now the next thing we will talk about is the duration of a workout. You can expect about half an hour to an hour for a normal weightlifting workout. You can expedite it or you can drag it out, most of the time it is going to run you about an hour, you are going do multiple sets with few amount of reps, the reason we do few reps -- and few reps means one to five, maximum being five -- is because we are trying to work on the explosiveness of each lift, we will do five to six working sets something like that with three to five different exercises. So it's quick, it's efficient and it is as fast as you make it. Now, couple of ways to get started. You can go to a gym which is going to run you anywhere from $10 to $200 a month for the membership or if you want to get started at home you can buy a set either used or brand new anywhere from $50 to $500+. Normal bumper plates are going to run you about $2 a pound, sometimes you could find a better deal online, sometimes it will be even more expensive, if you want to get the real championship sets. The another thing which you are going to want, if you are lifting at home, some rubber mats, save your floor, keep the family and the wife happy, don't drop the weights and break the cement, couple of rubber mats, couple of bumper plates and you are ready to go.
