Jim Davis: Hi! I am Jim Davis for Harris Teeter and I am going to show you all the different ways to cut carrots.
How To Slice CarrotsFirst of all, we want to peel it, and that's easy. Just pull the peeler down over the unpeeled carrot until you get all that carrot peeling removed. Then cut off the end and the other end.
Now we are going to use our figures like a claw. We are going to start cutting. You notice that I am cutting the thin end of the carrot. A little bigger slices. As the carrot gets bigger I cut down the size of the slice, because we want them all to cook about the same time. That's how you slice a carrot.
How To Dlice CarrotsWe are going to cut it into about a three or two, two or three inch of length. We'll take out a little slice off of the side of the carrot. Now we are working with a flat side, so we put it down flat, take off another slice.
Now we take a slice of about a quarter an inch thick and a quarter of inch thick of the other side. Now we simply cut that slice in half and that slice in half, holding our fingers carefully so we don't cut them with a knife. That's how you dice a carrot.
Cut it into a two inch length. Julienne is a length of food that is two inches long and one eighth inch square. The French have a term for everything and that happens to be the term for that size slice. So we cutoff one slice, now we cut off another slice. Now we are even working with the even slab. We cut off and eighth of an inch slab off of our carrot. Then we cut that into a one-eighth inch dice. That's how you julienne a carrot.
