Jim Davis: Hi! I'm Jim Davis for Harris Teeter. I'm here to show you all about cutting jalapeo peppers. How To Prepare A JalapeoYou'll notice I'm wearing a plastic glove. I do that, because some people have a very sensitive skin, and are very sensitive to the capsaicin in jalapeo peppers. That's where they get their heat.
I'm going to cut off the top of the pepper. I'm going to cut it in half lengthwise. You see this inside part; the heat in the jalapeo is this right here. This is a little rascal that gives it the heat. It's the white vein and the seeds. If you remove the white vein and the seeds, you remove a lot of the heat from the jalapeo. Not all of it, but a lot of it. How To Slice A JalapeoTo slice it now we just simply turn it down. Remember; always slice the pepper across the inside. The pepper is much easier than slicing that hard outside shell. We just hold it; slice it, and those thin slices. Those are the perfect slices, just sprinkle on top of your nachos or your salad. That's how you slice a jalapeo.
How To Chop A JalapeoThen to cut our jalapeo, to chop our jalapeo, we cut it into long lengths like that, and then crosswise. That's how you chop a jalapeo.
How To Mince A JalapeoNow I'm going to cut into very thin, sixteenth inch wide slices at the most, little thin slices. Then we're going to take the little thin slices, and turn them crossways, and holding my fingers, I could take small cuts. That's how you mince the jalapeo.
