How To Prepare LeeksBecause they are grown on a very sandy soil, they have a lot of soil of sand often times between the individual leafs. We will use only the light green portion of the leeks. So, we cut off the dark green leaves at the top and the root at the bottom. Then we cut the leek in half lengthwise and then we cut it into small pieces.

Put it into water, swish it around. Let it set for a few minutes for the sand to settle to the bottom of the dish. Then simply pick them out. That's how you prepare your leeks.

How To Chop A LeekWe are going to cut it in half and we are going to rinse it in water to get the sand out. All we do is rinse it and then put it down on our cutting board and chop. That's how you chop leeks.

How To Slice A LeekNow, we have our leek, we are going to cut it in half so that we can rinse it. It's very important to rinse leeks, because they are grown in a very sandy soil and they have a tendency to have a lot of heavy sand in them. So, you want to rinse them real well to get that sand out. Then holding your fingers like a claw and your knuckle as a guide slice the leeks about an eighth of an inch thick.

That is how you slice a leek.

How To Julienne A LeekWe are going to cut it in half and we are going to rinse it, because we want to make sure that we get the sand out of that leek. Then, we are going to cut it into a two inch length. Then, we are going to turn to lengthwise and cut it into one-eighth inch slices and give that. This is often used in fried and used as a garnish.

That is how you julienne a leek.
