Jim Davis: Hi! Chef Jim Davis here for Harris Teeter. I am going to show you now how to cut, cube, peel, and seed a watermelon.
Starting with the stem end of the watermelon and a long sharp knife simply cut it in half, and that's the way you cut a watermelon.
First we cut it in half, now we are going to cut our watermelon into wedges, into quarters, and then into eighths, just like that. We've got this one into eighths; we take our watermelon then, and take a long sharp knife. We just simply cut just inside the white rind of the watermelon, just like that, and that's how you slice a watermelon.
First of all we are going to trim it off so that we end up with pretty much a square watermelon piece, like this. By the way we cut these smaller chunks up, put those into a salad bowl. Now to cut up our chunks we simply cut like that, pick like that. That's how you chunk a watermelon.
