Today we're going to show you some different techniques on fondant and today we're using satin ice. So, today what we will be showing you is basic techniques on covering a cake. You don't want any lumps. Zane's going to show you how to do drapes, swags, flowers, animals, simple molds, marbling. There's just a variety of different techniques that can be done with satin ice fondant.
So, to cover your cake in fondant what you need to start with, of course, is your cake. Some very basic tools, offsets, spatulas, a kitchen knife to cut your cake and make it leveled and use a rolling pin, a fondant smoother, a pizza cutting wheel and a clean stocking that you're going to put your powdered sugar in and the purpose behind this stocking is that you can get a nice dusting of powdered sugar when you roll out your fondant. And you're going to need some different molds, cutters, impression mats and a sugarcraft gun, to do different techniques on your cake.
So, I've been baking cakes and decorating cakes for 30 some years now and I believe Zane for approximately 16 years now, and we at The Sweet Life will do birthday cakes, wedding cakes, pretty much any type of cake, celebrating any type of events and for the last 7 years now I've been demoing and teaching throughout the United States. So, what we need to do is get started by crumb coating our cake.
