John Basedow: If you're not as fit as you used to be, but want to return to fighting shape, then I have some tips to get you back to where you would like to be. So start, admit that you can jump into the same amount and intensity of exercise you may have been used to in the past. Think of yourself as a frozen rubber band, you have to warm up before you have the same rage of motion, strength and power. Focus on doing as much you can do now safely and after the six week mark you'll be ready to add more repetitions and up the intensity. As you gradually get back into exercising find activities and workouts that you actually enjoy. Many people give up on fitness because think it gets stale. Stay off boredom by trying new workouts, exercising with a friend or joining a local sports league. You wont get the results right away, but they will come back eventually so be patient, if you stick to it you'll be able to surpass your previous best.
It will take some time, dont get frustrated and angry by expecting too much too soon. Setup for success so you dont back slide as long as you push yourself forward you will return to your previous shape and get even better. Dont let momentary failures lead to quitting, it was a journey to get out of shape and it's going to be a journey to get back into shape, but these tips will help make you road to fitness, that much easier.
