John Basedow: Chances are you're probably watching this video sitting down and if you're like most computer users, you've been sitting down for a while it's never too late to get fit and now is the time to get out of your chair and get into shape. We spend a lot of time in the day sitting down probably more than we realize. Long periods of physical inactivity raise your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and obesity. Focus on achieving a healthier lifestyle even if you've been out of shape for a long time. People who start out with unrealistic goals and expectations tend to over exhaust themselves and give up when they don't see the results they want right away. Start small and slowly increase your intensity in order to succeed. Walk for half an hour and build up to running longer distances or lift smaller weights and work up to heavier ones. Don't make the mistake of treating exercise like a chore. Vigorous workouts take time and energy and can be a real turn-off especially when you're first starting out. Focus on the workouts that you enjoy and change up your routine to keep your body guessing. Exercise doesn't have to be boring, especially around people with similar goals. Find fitness opportunities in your community like organized sports, running clubs, or even group fitness classes at your local recreation center and don't think the only effective workout is a long one, something as small as a ten minute jog or a set of jumping jacks will improve your progress. Any activity is better than none.
So find opportunities to move more each day. The more exercise you add to your life, the easier it is to become a healthier you.
