Amy DePaoli of PetValu provides tips for how to keep your pet comfortable while home alone.

Amy DePaoli: Hi! I am Amy DePaoli with Pet Valu. Today, we are going to talk about a few things to consider before leaving your pet home alone for length of time.

A few things to keep in mind make sure you leave your pet with fresh water, be sure to leave an interactive toy to keep them busy, exercise your pet before you leave and be sure to block off any areas of the house that you don't want your pet to roam in.

The length of time you can leave your pet home alone really depends upon their age. Clearly, a puppy should be left alone for the shortest amount of time and as a dog ages the more self-sufficient it will become. When possible arrange for other means, so your dog isn't left home alone for too long.

Hire a dog walker. Take your dog to a doggy day care and if you are going to a pet friendly environment, bring your dog with you, as long as you have at leash.

So before you walk out the door, consider these tips to keep your dog safe and happy.
