Amy Riolo: If you think great fish and chips can only be had in restaurants, think again. This easy recipe uses only a handful of ingredients and taste great.
Let's begin by making our batter. The first thing that we're going to do is season our flour. We're going to add a teaspoon of salt and a half teaspoon of pepper and then I have an egg that I'm going to whisk with a tablespoon of water.
To make fish and chips we use cod and I'm just going to take a piece and dredge it in the flour and I'm going to dip it in our egg mixture. I'll drain off the excess and dip it right back into the flour.
This double step with the flour helps to make that nice crust. Then you can shake off the excess and put it right into the oil and then you just repeat with the remaining pieces.
The trick to making really good fish and chips is to get the fish nice and crunchy and golden by only turning it one time. Now we can leave our right where it is and go ahead and add in our fries or our chips in this case.
So the last of our fries is ready. We can go ahead and just put them on our platter. So here we have our classic fish and chips, a trip to the UK on a plate. Enjoy!
