Amy Riolo: Hi! I'm Amy Riolo with Harris Teeter. Healthful breakfasts don't need to take a lifetime. Combining quinoa with fresh fruit, nuts, cinnamon, and honey is a delicious and nutritious way to start your day. Let's begin.
The first thing we're going to do its combine the quinoa and the water into our pot. Quinoa is an ancient grain that came actually from South America. It's something that the Inkas used to use. So we'll combine 1 cup of that into our pot and then 2 cups of water. It's always a double ratio. 1 cup of quinoa to 2 of water. Then I'm just going to turn our heat on and now with this cup to boil on high heat and I'm just going to stir it to combine. So as soon as the quinoa starts to boil we'll reduce our heat to low. Then we can cover it and we'll simmer it for 10-15 minutes just until it absorbs all of the water. Now our quinoa has finished cooking and we can check it by just making sure that it absorbed all of the water. You can see how nicely this fluffed up. It really got a lot of volumes. So this is enough four servings even though we only used 1 cup and now it's time to serve. Quinoa is great for savory applications. It can be eaten cold or warm. We can spring along some almonds and top it with a little bit of honey and a little bit of cinnamon, some berries which are also particularly healthful, because of their nutrients and bananas which have a lot of potassium and then we can top it off with some almond milk, soy milk, or even regular milk whichever you prefer.
